Letter from the Headteacher

Dear Parents,

I would like to welcome you to Gilsland Church of England Primary School. I am very proud to be Headteacher of this wonderful school. I love to take visitors around and I always enjoy showing them the polite children and marvellous facilities. There are many extra-curricular activities including sports, cookery, art, knitting and country dancing. We are a “healthy school” having been awarded Healthy School status as well as the Active Mark for our commitment to PE and Games activities.

A great deal of time and effort is spent by the staff making this a special place to learn, work and play. I believe that the school offers all of its children an excellent education, full of challenge and interest. As a result our children always make progress and experience success. We are part of the Creative Partnership working alongside other schools in the local area to bring about a range of educational opportunities for our children. As a result, this has enabled all of our children to become expert artists, dancers, musicians and puppeteers.

I would also like to point out that in September 2009 we opened our new nursery, Jigsaw Nursery and Pre School for children aged 2 to 3 years. This is a purpose built early year’s unit with full outdoor provision and run by dedicated, highly trained staff. Our most recent Ofsted report (November 2009) states;

“ Children’s individual care and learning needs are effectively met within this safe, secure, warm and welcoming nursery unit. The management and staff are a dedicated and committed team of early years professionals who recognise the uniqueness of each and every child in their care. Children’s learning and development is promoted through innovative teaching strategies that support their independence, interest and desire to investigate and explore their environment. Children benefit from the strong partnership with parents, and the excellent links with the school and local community.”

Please come and visit us as we are always happy to meet and speak with you. We pride ourselves on the warmth of our welcome and the friendliness of our approach because it is in working together that our children will flourish and grow.

Yours sincerely,

Christine Boucetla
Headteacher
